The award comprises two external examinations at the end of the course and a coursework component.
Over the two-year course, students study in depth the work of one pre-1900 poet from a list that includes Chaucer, Milton, Coleridge, Tennyson and Rossetti.
For the same component, they also study a Shakespeare play that might be Hamlet, The Tempest, Measure for Measure, Twelfth Night, Richard III or Coriolanus, and an additional pre-1900 drama text.
