The Shuman Senior Award in Literature will be awarded to the best senior English Literature major.

The Shuman Award for Best Honors Thesis in Literature will be awarded to the best critical honors thesis.

The Shuman Junior Award in Creative Writing will be awarded to the best junior Creative Writing major.

The Shuman Senior Award in Creative Writing will be awarded to the best senior Creative Writing major.

$500 for best entry One entry per person may be submitted for: poetry (up to 10 pp.), short fiction (up to 25 pp.), essay (up to 25 pp.), play (up to 60 pp.) or screenplay (up to 60 pp.).

Include a cover page with the title of work, author's name, address, phone number, and e-mail address.George and Ruth Yost Award for Best Personal Essay / Deadline: Wednesday, February 27th, 2019, by 5 p.m.0 award for best personal essay from an English Department course above first-year composition in the previous calendar year.Please follow these rules: _____________________________ In addition to the prizes listed above, the Department will annually present the following awards to students who have demonstrated continued excellence in their work in the English Department.Students should not apply directly for these prizes.All Western Illinois University undergraduates, regardless of major, are welcome to submit their fiction to the Cordell Larner Award in Fiction contest.Fiction can include stories about anything and everything you desire.Your name must be completely removed from the document, and all comments by teachers on the course papers, however, should also be removed.A legible scanned of the entry copy is acceptable as long as it is in pdf format; handwritten work is not acceptable.Similarly, a student may not submit more than one manuscript to a single contest. All entries must be to the Department of English, 405 Williams Building unless otherwise specified.Entries should be on plain paper and either stapled or paper-clipped. Winners of the Spring 2019 awards will be announced at the English Department Awards Ceremony, Friday, April 12th, 2019, - p.m., in the Augusta Conradi Studio Theatre (first floor Williams Building).
