Applicants will be evaluated by a committee appointed by the Associate Dean for Humanities and the Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences, the Associate Dean of the Graduate School, and the Director of the Center for Humanities and the Arts.
Awardees will be asked to submit a letter notifying the Dean's Office of completion of their dissertation.
The committee assesses quality with reference to the following criteria: Fellows may propose to work in more than one repository during the fellowship period, including repositories abroad.
Preference is given to applicants working away from their home institutions.urges beginning grad students to spend their time—particularly summer time—wisely by seeking out and applying for research funding.A quick snippet (bold emphasis ours): "One of the first things graduate students should consider doing early on is applying for grants—even if you receive full financial support in your program.Other teaching-free fellowships the applicant has already received (the fewer, the better) Applicants must submit the following materials: 1. If this happens, applicants should contact David Aragoni, A&S Scholarship Coordinator and Analyst.AY 19-20 deadlines and application procedures will be posted soon.The purpose of these Dissertation Fellowships is to provide outstanding Ph. candidates in the Arts and the Humanities with support to assist in completing their doctoral dissertations.All six fellowships provide full support for the academic year.Additionally, students may not take classes outside of their dissertation hours nor may they accept another fellowship or grant during the same time.Doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy (D status) in the following departments and programs in the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible to apply for a Dissertation Fellowship: Asian Languages and Civilizations, Classics, English, French and Italian, Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, History, Philosophy, Spanish and Portuguese, and Theatre & Dance.Instead, any graduate student who meets the qualifications may nominate themselves.Dissertation Fellowships will be announced in December.
