Writing a problem-solution essay starts with an introduction, as you would start any other type of essay. You can start by painting an image of the problem or the issue at hand to make it more compelling for readers to continue reading.

Problem solution papers are common on exams, as they allow you to explore an issue and use critical thinking to respond with a solution.

To write a problem solution paper, start by outlining the paper.

If it is needed, it can often be included in the introduction, especially for short essays, as with the example essay below.

The 'evaluation' may be included as part of the conclusion (also as in the example below), or omitted altogether, especially for short essays.

This is what most writers call the lead or the hook, which is used to grab readers’ attention.

The introduction is also the part where the writer appeals to the emotions of the readers by stating who are affected by the problem and what the consequences will be if this problem is not addressed.
