I did the early-bird checkin about a MONTH in advance just to be sure, and always got in the A group. Southwest are great, I'd fly with 'em again in a flash. Should I go for the Early Bird Check-In now, even if my flight isn't until the end of March?

See, the last 1/3rd of people boarding are destined to sit in a middle seat. The aisle and the window seats are long gone at this point. As you’re walking down that airplane aisle, you start the scanning process. You take quick glances at first but then as you get halfway down the plane, you start stealing longer glances at potential seat mates with the realization you’ll have to make the decision very soon. No one is spared -you must find the most desirable people to squeeze between.People get to pick their seat when flying Southwest Airlines. Instead they assign you a pre-determined order in which you must board the plane. If you have a low number you board first and if you have a high number you board last.By choosing “I agree” below, you agree that NPR’s sites use cookies, similar tracking and storage technologies, and information about the device you use to access our sites to enhance your viewing, listening and user experience, personalize content, personalize messages from NPR’s sponsors, provide social media features, and analyze NPR’s traffic. This information is shared with social media services, sponsorship, analytics and other third-party service providers. I always like to have a window seat whenever I'm flying. The sooner you do it, the better your chance of getting in "A" group. Let's say that you check-in online at 24 hours before, you will print your boarding pass at home. When you are at the gate and it is time to board they will announce "A" group to line up first. It is something like the first 10 spots are business select (A 1-10). I always get a window seat by checking in 24 hours prior for free online. What can I do to obtain a window seat on a Southwest flight? 24 hours PRIOR to departure, you log into Southwest Airlines and hit the "CHECK-IN" button. In general, if you log in within the first four hours, you will be in the "A" Boarding Group and you'll be one of the first ones on the plane. Southwest is a little bit different - friendly staff, free bags, few fees, lower fares, and QUICKER boarding as there are no assigned seats ... Sometimes it costs a lot more, but I have done it when it was only .00 more. Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum.
